Civics Interview — Support

Civics Interview asks you the USCIS civics questions out loud and grades the answers you speak back, the way the real interview does. Tap the orb to start. Tap it twice to stop early.

Common problems

It cannot hear me.

Check that the app has microphone permission in Settings › Privacy & Security › Microphone. If it does, try a quieter room or a headset — the app deliberately closes the microphone while the interviewer is speaking, so a television or a conversation nearby is not mistaken for your answer.

It keeps answering for me, or moves on before I finish.

That is background noise being taken for speech. A headset fixes it almost every time.

It says the app is unavailable.

The interview needs a network connection to start. If you have one and it still says this, the service is down or out of credit; try again later.

It asked about the wrong state.

Six of the questions depend on where you live. Change your state in Settings, from the gear in the corner of the start screen.

The answers it marks correct disagree with what I was taught.

The question bank follows the current USCIS civics test. Some answers — your senators, your representative, the governor — change with elections, and a question graded against a stale officeholder is a bug worth reporting.
